Old Notre Dame Ducats

Our late friend Bob Siegel was an Eagle Scout volunteer when the Fighting Irish visited Pitt back in October of 1930.  He got to the stadium thinking he would do his normal duty passing out programs in the stands, and then was called down to the field to help out as a ball boy on the Notre Dame sideline.

It was the only meeting of legendary coaches Knute Rockne and Jock Sutherland, and it was quite a day in the city.  The 75,000 in attendance set a record for the largest crowd to watch a football game in Pittsburgh.

Hundreds of fake tickets in circulation made for a chaotic scene at the gates.

That's Bob on the right, standing.
